See a 2-D drawing become 3-D
Watch a sketch break out of the 2-D plane and appear 3-D thanks to a new digital media type from NSF-funded small business Mental Canvas.
The technology combines 2-D sketching and 3-D modeling, and allows users to navigate drawings fluidly. The product is the result of years of NSF-supported fundamental research in computer science and engineering by Julie Dorsey.

Yale computer scientist and Mental Canvas founder Julie Dorsey hopes the technology will enable scientists to get a 3-D look at their back-of-the-envelope molecular structures; architecture students to gain a new perspective on their building designs; moviemakers can find a new way to visualize storyboards; and readers to get new enjoyment from their illustrated books.
