Sponsored by the U.S. National Science Foundation and operated by Battelle, NEON collects data using sensors mounted on towers at terrestrial field sites across the US. Tower sensors monitor physical and chemical properties of atmosphere-related processes such as humidity and wind. They also measure net ecosystem exchange or the amount of gas that is exchanged between the atmosphere and the ecosystem.
The continental-scale ecological observation facility gathers and synthesizes data on the impacts of climate change, land-use change and invasive species on natural resources and biodiversity.
