AI avatars of historical scientists teach the nature of the universe – The Beamer
The Beamer, a small business funded by the National Science Foundation, is developing an interactive learning platform to teach science to children aged 8 to 13.
The Beamer’s platform weaves science into a story about atoms and the beginning of the universe. The time-travel adventure game is taught by avatars - important scientists including Albert Einstein and Henrietta Leavitt - who provide verbal answers to students' spoken questions. The artificial intelligence built into the scientist avatars guides student learning and assesses progress in achieving pre-established educational goals.
The Beamer is supported by America’s Seed Fund powered by the National Science Foundation, a nearly $200 million program that awards research and development grants to small businesses and startups, transforming scientific discovery into products and services with commercial and societal impact.
