Preparing for boundary layer wind tunnel test
A model of downtown Minneapolis, Minn., is prepared for testing in the boundary layer wind tunnel at the University of Minnesota's St. Anthony Falls Laboratory (SAFL). The test will study the effects of wind on structures including stress on windows, heat loss due to leaks, and poor air conditioning and ventilation system performance, as well as the effects of wind on pedestrians. Support for the design and construction of the wind tunnel was made through National Science Foundation (NSF) grant CEE 84-10532.
More recently, SAFL was awarded an NSF Science and Technology Center grant to establish the National Center for Earth Surface Dynamics. The new center will seek to identify and quantify the major physical, biological and chemical processes that shape the Earth's surface. (Date of Image: Unknown)
