Facial analysis for emotion recognition and avatar control
Researchers at the Integrated Media Systems Center (IMSC), a National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center at the University of Southern California, are investigating the creation, control and animation of 3-D representations of the human face.
IMSC graduate student Doug Fidaleo, who conducts research on the project, is shown with 3-D facial representations on screens in the background. This work is part of IMSC's overall research efforts to develop technology for 3-D teleconferencing over the Internet that could result in lifelike avatars of people that would appear to be in the same room but who are really communicating over the Internet from remote locations.
