Four-story apartment building collapse following an earthquake in Turkey.
A four-story apartment building in Bingol, Turkey, following a 6.4 magnitude quake in 2003. This image was taken by a team of researchers led by Purdue University civil engineering professors Julio Ramirez and Mete Sozen, who traveled to Turkey following the quake to study the damage. The team, who were sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and TUBITAK, the NSF counterpart in Turkey, submitted their findings with regards to future construction practices to help save lives.
