Why Diversity in Computer Science Is Important
Computer science professionals of a variety of backgrounds and views discuss why it is imperative for the field to embrace a diversity of perspectives to address today's global challenges. Those sharing their insights are (in order of appearance): Farnam Jahanian, assistant director for NSF's Directorate for Computer and Information Science and Engineering; James Mickens, a researcher with Microsoft Research; Andrea Johnson, a PhD candidate at Clemson University in South Carolina; Cedric Stallworth, the assistant dean for outreach, enrollment and community at Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) in Atlanta; and Jane Margolis, senior researcher at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA).
