At Pegasus Airfield, Ross Island, Antarctica, passengers make their way off an U.S. Air Force C-17 air transport. They will shortly board a bus that will take them to McMurdo Station, the main U.S. antarctic research station. Most are employees of the National Science Foundation's antarctic support contractor and will be working to prepare the station for the 2009-2010 austral summer research season.
