NSF-Simons centers to search for the Rules of Life

Structural complexity emerges during the development of a fruit fly’s eye. The fruit fly, or Drosophila, is one of the organisms that the NSF-Simons Center for Quantitative Biology at Northwestern University will study.

Gene expression and cell decisions guide stem cells (green) into differentiated cells (red). Researchers at Georgia Tech are studying how basic stem cells become specific cells in the body based on which genes are expressed and other cellular decisions.
