The National Science Foundation’s Advisory Committee for Geosciences (AC GEO) is updating its 2014 report, Dynamic Earth: GEO Imperatives & Frontiers 2015-2020 to incorporate recent developments and to explore future directions for the many disciplines supported by NSF’s Directorate for Geosciences (GEO).
With your input, AC GEO will develop a report that provides a clear picture of the exciting areas on the leading edge of the geosciences, captures the importance of curiosity-driven research to better understand our planet and its many interconnected systems, and explains the importance of the geosciences to our society and economy.
We welcome your perspective and suggestions on the content and organizational structure for our upcoming report. Input can be sent to geovision@nsf.gov no later than Thursday, February 1, 2018. Thank you for your thoughtful consideration of this request.

The Division of Earth Sciences is seeking qualified candidates for a program director in the Geophysics program. The Geophysics program supports basic research in the physics of the solid earth to explore its composition, structure, and processes using laboratory, field/observational, theoretical, and computational studies. The application deadline has been extended to December 4, 2017.

New solicitations have been released for some programs of interest to the Earth Science Community. Please read and take note of the changes to the following solicitations:
1. Office of International Science and Engineering (OISE): International Research Experiences for Students (IRES), National Science Foundation Research Traineeship (NRT), Partners For Innovation (PFI)
2. EAR Instrumentation and Facilities (IF): Major Research Instrumentation (MRI)
3. Dynamics of Coupled Natural and Human Systems (CNH).
The U.S. National Science Foundation propels the nation forward by advancing fundamental research in all fields of science and engineering. NSF supports research and people by providing facilities, instruments and funding to support their ingenuity and sustain the U.S. as a global leader in research and innovation. With a fiscal year 2023 budget of $9.5 billion, NSF funds reach all 50 states through grants to nearly 2,000 colleges, universities and institutions. Each year, NSF receives more than 40,000 competitive proposals and makes about 11,000 new awards. Those awards include support for cooperative research with industry, Arctic and Antarctic research and operations, and U.S. participation in international scientific efforts.
