Appointment of Division Director for the Division of Ocean Sciences (7/20/18)

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Terrence (Terry) M. Quinn as the Division Director for the Division of Ocean Sciences (OCE). This appointment is effective, July 23, 2018. Dr. Quinn will be located in Room W-8142 and can be reached on 703-292-7240 or tquinn@nsf.gov.
Dr. Quinn comes to NSF from the University of Texas at Austin where he is a Professor in the Jackson School of Geosciences. Terry has served as director of the University of Texas Institute for Geophysics (UTIG) since 2009. He completed his undergraduate degree at SUNY-Oneonta and earned his Ph.D. at Brown University. Following a post-doc at the University of Michigan, he started his academic career at the University of South Florida, where he was promoted to the rank of Professor in the College of Marine Science before moving to Texas. Terry’s area of research expertise is paleoceanography and paleoclimatology, focused in the tropical to sub-tropical oceans. He has written or co-authored over 75 peer-reviewed papers, many of them with his graduate students. He served as a lead author of a chapter in the 5th Assessment Report (AR5, 2013) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and has served in numerous advisory and service roles within the ocean sciences community in general.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Bauke Houtman for his adept leadership of OCE as Acting Division Director for the last few months.
