DEADLINE, Feb. 11, 2020: Navigating the New Arctic solicitation for proposals

January 7, 2020

NSF's Office of Polar Programs has issued a new solicitation for proposals as part of its Navigating the New Arctic (NNA) initiative.

NNA is one of a set of "Big Ideas," 10 long-term research and process ideas that identify areas for future investment at the frontiers of science and engineering. NNA is designed to "tackle convergent scientific challenges" in the rapidly changing Arctic.

Proposals must be submitted to NSF’s Geosciences directorate but, because NNA is a foundation-wide initiative, they will be managed by a cross-directorate team of program directors.

The solicitation may be found here:

Those considering submitting proposals are encouraged to take advantage of “virtual office hours” to speak with various NNA program officers from across the Foundation.

The U.S. National Science Foundation propels the nation forward by advancing fundamental research in all fields of science and engineering. NSF supports research and people by providing facilities, instruments and funding to support their ingenuity and sustain the U.S. as a global leader in research and innovation. With a fiscal year 2023 budget of $9.5 billion, NSF funds reach all 50 states through grants to nearly 2,000 colleges, universities and institutions. Each year, NSF receives more than 40,000 competitive proposals and makes about 11,000 new awards. Those awards include support for cooperative research with industry, Arctic and Antarctic research and operations, and U.S. participation in international scientific efforts.
