NSF/AGS April Updates: Important PAPPG Change and Funding Opportunities

We hope you are well.  Below are a few important updates, including a potential new requirement for proposals involving field work, and funding opportunities in convergent science.

NSF Proposal Instructions

NSF has published a notice in the Federal Register announcing the availability of a "For comment" draft of the Proposal & Award Policies & Procedures Guide (PAPPG) (NSF 23-1).  Each year NSF updates the PAPPG with a variety of changes.  This year there is a significant change that will potentially affect many AGS PIs.  A new supplemental document entitled, “Plan for Safe and Inclusive Field/Vessel/Aircraft Research” has been added as a requirement for proposals involving field work.  See PAPPG Chapter II.C.2.i(xi)) (page 60-61 of the .pdf) for additional information regarding this new supplementary document.  If you have input on this requirement, NSF is accepting comments from the external community via the Federal Register link until cob June 13, 2022.

Personnel

 We highly encourage you to consider the 2022 Convergence Accelerator, which is aligned with the new NSF Technology, Innovation, and Partnership (TIP) Directorate.  Track J of the funding opportunity is Food & Nutrition Security, which will converge a wide range of disciplines to address intertwined challenges in supporting population health, combating climate change, and addressing the nutritional needs of the most vulnerable by empowering youth, women, and disadvantaged communities.  There are informational webinars on May 4th and 5th that you can register for here:  https://www.eventbrite.com/o/nsf-convergence-accelerator-32255371071

  • Campus Cyberinfrastructure (CC*) - The Campus Cyberinfrastructure (CC*) program invests in coordinated campus-level networking and cyberinfrastructure improvements, innovation, integration, and engineering for science applications and distributed research projects. Science-driven requirements are the primary motivation for any proposed activity.
  •  The updated CAREER solicitation has been released. 

NSF’s Strategic Plan

The new NSF 2022-2026 Strategic Plan has been released.
