July 20, 2022
Dear Colleagues:
The Marine Geology and Geophysics (MGG) Program in the Ocean Sciences Division (OCE) of the National Science Foundation seeks candidates with experience and expertise in the broad area of paleoceanography. The Program Director will work as a member of a team of Program Directors who collectively manage the Marine Geology and Geophysics Program. The Program supports research on all aspects of the geology and geophysics of the present ocean basins and margins, as well as those of the Great Lakes.
NSF Program Directors bear the primary responsibility for carrying out the agency's overall mission to support innovative and merit-reviewed activities in basic research and education that contribute to the nation's technical strength, security, and welfare. To fulfill this responsibility requires not only knowledge in the appropriate disciplines, but also a commitment to high standards, a considerable breadth of interest and receptivity to new ideas, a strong sense of fairness, good judgment, and a high degree of personal integrity. The core duties and responsibilities of the NSF Program Director will be the administration of the merit review process and proposal recommendations and coordinating and working with other programs in NSF as well as other Federal agencies and organizations.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in a paleoceanography-related earth science field plus six or more years (post-Ph.D.) of successful research, research administration, and/or managerial experience pertinent to the position.
Applicants can apply for a permanent position or as a rotator. More information about the position and instructions for applications can be found at the following links:
We encourage candidates to reach out to MGG program managers or other OCE staff with questions about the position. Please also feel to contact the search committee chair, Hedy Edmonds Program Director - Chemical Oceanography Program.
Sincerely,
Terry Quinn
Division Director, OCE
