NSF/AGS Mid-June Update
June 21, 2023
Colleagues,
Please see the below updates, including a new Dear Colleague Letter from AGS.
Funding Opportunities
- GEO/AGS has released a new DCL titled Critical Research on GreenHouse Gas Transport and Fate in the Planetary Boundary Layer and Above (GHG-PBLA). The intent of this DCL is to support fundamental research that examines the fate of greenhouse gases once they have been emitted to the atmosphere, particularly the processes that make it difficult to ascertain the source of the gases.
- NSF has released an updated version of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities - Excellence in Research (HBCU-EiR) solicitation.
- There will be a webinar for the NSF-Swiss NSF Lead Agency Opportunity on June 27th at 10am eastern. Registration is here: https://nsf.zoomgov.com/webinar/register/WN_j82DXO0CSMy2TGcGTaHtkg
Announcements
- The Directorate of Geosciences (GEO) will host the next GEO-EMpowering BRoader Academic Capacity and Education (GEO-EMBRACE) drop-in Virtual Office Hour (VOH) on 27 June 2023 (Tuesday) between 4-5 PM Eastern Time. We invite faculty members at emerging (non-R1) academic institutions (e.g., Community Colleges, Tribal Colleges and Universities, MSIs, HBCUs, Undergraduate, Masters, and R2 Institutions) to engage with GEO Program Directors to address concerns and ask questions about opportunities found in the GEO-EMBRACE web portal. To attend the VOH, please register using this link (https://nsf.zoomgov.com/meeting/register/vJItceyqrTItHtpowQNtE0MNzO4YRbMGgck).
- NCAR/EOL and the University of Wyoming are hosting the NSF-funded 2023 Facilities for Atmospheric Research and Education User's Workshop from 18-22 September 2023 in Boulder, CO. The workshop consists of three distinct sessions:
- FARE Process (18-19 September), which targets researchers who are unfamiliar with NSF's FARE program. This session will offer a comprehensive overview of the program, describe the different FARE NSF proposal tracks, and outline the process to request FARE assets for research as well as education and outreach.
- FARE Asset Exhibit (20 September), which offers workshop participants the opportunity to closely interact with FARE asset providers who will showcase their platforms and instruments in the form of an Open House.
- FARE Future (21-22 September), during which community experts will lead discussions related to science drivers, emerging technologies, and community needs associated with observational atmospheric research.
Limited funding is available to support travel and registration for participants from Minority Serving Institutions. For more information about the workshop, including how to register and apply for funding support, visit the NCAR/EOL website at https://www.eol.ucar.edu/fare-users-workshop.
Thank you, and as always please feel free to share this widely.
Best regards,
