Lauren Culler Joins OPP as Program Director for the Arctic Observing Network

July 28, 2023

The Office of Polar Programs is pleased to welcome Dr. Lauren Culler as Program Director for the Arctic Observing Network.

Dr. Culler comes from the Department of Environmental Studies and the Institute of Arctic Studies at Dartmouth College, where she studies ecological change in the Arctic. Her recent field projects in Greenland have explored landscape changes related to soil erosion and pond drying, biogeochemical cycling at the aquatic-terrestrial interface, and the roles of mosquitoes in Arctic social-ecological systems. Dr. Culler’s scholarship aims to fully integrate research, education, and policy. She has led international efforts to train the next generation of polar and STEM professionals, developed guidelines for U.S. researchers working in Greenland, and serves as the University of the Arctic’s liaison to Conservation of Arctic Flora and Fauna (CAFF), the biodiversity working group of the Arctic Council.

Dr. Culler received her Ph.D. in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology from Dartmouth, where she also completed an interdisciplinary NSF IGERT fellowship in Polar Environmental Change.
