"Earth & Sky" Launches Spanish Version
One of the longest-running science radio shows, "Earth & Sky," has launched a Spanish-language version at: http://www.earthsky.org/spanish/. With funding from the National Science Foundation, "Cielo y Tierra" features the latest science news and answer listeners' science questions in Spanish.
Cielo y Tierra complements the original Earth & Sky, which has broadcast more than 5,000 two-minute, 90-second and 60-second radio shows since its launch in 1991. It has produced numerous eight- to 14-minute podcasts featuring scientists explaining their work, and a Web site at http://earthsky.org offering blogs, a daily sky watch report and other resources.
Earth & Sky recently won two awards of excellence: The Council of Colleges of Arts and Sciences (CCAS) 2011 Arts & Sciences Advocacy Award, which recognizes "an individual or organization demonstrating exemplary advocacy for the arts and sciences;" and Best Radio Show in the Population Institute's 32nd Annual Global Media Awards for Excellence in Population Reporting. This is the second year that Earth & Sky won this prestigious award.
