Many students transfer from a community college to a 4-year college or university. Others transfer to a different community college or to a less than 2-year college.
Key Observations
- Of the undergraduate students who began their postsecondary education at a community college in the 2003/04 academic year, nearly 4 in 10 transferred to another institution within 6 years (by spring 2009).
- About 23% of the community college students in this cohort transferred to a 4-year college or university.
- About 14% of the cohort transferred to another 2-year college, and a little over 1% transferred to a less than 2-year college.
