WORKSHOPS RELEVANT TO NSF SUPPORT OF POLAR RESEARCH
Workshops influence program goals, investigators' proposals, and funding decisions. In fiscal 2001, the National Science Foundation funded 472 workshops. The list below contains only those workshops held over the last several years that—
- relate to polar research
- are relevant to NSF funding decisions, and
- were funded by NSFs Office of Polar Programs
Workshops supported by other parts of NSF—or performed without NSF supportcan be relevant to Office of Polar Programs decisions. No attempt is made to list those here.
Criteria for support of conferences, symposia, and workshops are in the Grant Proposal Guide (gpg14001), chapter II, section D.8.
Other sources of information about polar workshops and advisory groups:
- NSF's Geosciences Directorate Advisory Committee meets twice a year.

- Polar Research Board (PRB), National Research Council, partially funded by NSF, analyzes science and technology matters affecting public policy regarding research, environmental quality, natural resources, and other arctic and antarctic issues. On the web site, see especially Recent Studies, Publications, and Meeting Information.
- Arctic Research Consortium of the United States, funded by NSF, identifies and brings together the human and facilities resources of the arctic research community.
