Characteristics of doctorate recipients
Race and ethnicity
In 2016, among U.S. citizen and permanent resident doctorate recipients, those identifying as black or African American or as American Indian or Alaska Native were more likely to receive doctorates at age 41 or older, compared with other doctorate recipients in other racial or ethnic groups. They were also less likely to receive doctorates at age 30 or younger.
